-“There is / There are ” herhangi bir şeyin varlığını ifade eder.Varlığını ifade ettiğimiz şey tekil ise “there is” , birden fazla yani çoğul ise “there are” kullanırız.
There is a girl in the classroom. (Sınıfta bir tane kız var.)
There are five apples on the plate.(Tabakta beş tane elma var.)
-“There is / There are ” yapılarına “not” eki getirilirse herhangi bir şeyin yokluğunu ifade eder.
There is not (isn’t) a teacher in the class. (Sınıfta öğretmen yok.)
There are not (aren’t) students in the garden.(Bahçede öğrenci yok.)
-Soru şekli ise “Is there ….? / Are there ……?” dir.
Is there any cheese in the fridge?
(Buzdolabında hiç peynir var mı?)
Are there glasses on the shelf?
(Rafta bardak var mı?)
Ezgi: Are there grapes in the salad? (Salatada üzüm var mı?)
Furkan:No, there aren’t.There are apples,bananas and oranges.(Hayır yok.Elma,muz ve portakal var.)
Ezgi:That’s good because i don’t like grapes.(Bu iyi çünkü üzüm sevmiyorum)
COUNTABLES /UNCOUNTABLES
Sayılabilen (countable) isimler hem tekil hem çoğul olarak kullanılabilir.
an apple (bir elma)
five apples (beş tane elma)
Sayılamayan (uncountable) isimler ise çoğulları yoktur.Yani onlar “a/an,three ,seven” gibi edat bildiren ifadeler ile nitelenemez.
Sayılamayan(uncountable) isimler tekil oldukları için “is” yapısıyla kullanılır.
-Is there orange juice in the fridge?
(Dolapta portakal suyu var mı?)
Bazı sayılabilen (countable) isimler;
Orange ,apple,flower,car,house ,cat……
Bazı sayılamayan (uncountable) isimler
Bread,cheese,meat,water,milk,tea…..
Sayılamayan (uncountable) isimleri sayılabilen hale getirmek için ismin önüne bazı yapılar eklenir.En sık kullanılan yapılar aşağıdaki sunuda verilmiştir.
